How Universal Events Takes the Stress Out of Networking
The thought of networking fills many professionals with dread, and admittedly not all of us at Universal Events loved it initially either. Part of the problem that many people share is it’s too complicated.
Certainly there are many different ways to go about it, but in fact we at Universal Events maintain that if you follow these three simple rules, your network will consistently grow as a result. Follow these tips the next time you’re mingling at a conference or event.
First, make sure your motives are pure. If you have an impression of networking as something a little sleazy, then you’re not doing it right. Don’t think of it as a contest or a sport; rather, it’s simply a way of meeting professional friends.
To help you accomplish this, we offer a second rule of thumb – be mindful and proud of what you have to offer others. The best time to consider the value that you offer to others is before you start introducing yourself to people; otherwise, you might come across as needy.
Finally, network strategically. It’s exhausting to try and make yourself valuable to everyone you meet. Consider what you are looking for in a contact, and focus on finding those sorts of people. However, always remember rule number one: networking is about making friends. If you aren’t genuinely interested in someone, don’t pursue a relationship.
Remember these three guidelines and our Universal Events professionals guarantee that networking will be far less stressful.
