Interview Strategies From Our Hiring Managers

Universal Events is a growing company, and our hiring managers are currently speaking with candidates for our team. These are some tips they give based on their experience to help interviewees excel during their meetings.

First, make sure to answer any questions authentically. While preparation for the standard interview questions is vital, don’t take this too far and memorize responses word for word. The best interviews are conversations during which the dialogue flows naturally. Know your specific points, but do your best to connect them in the moment.

Next, embrace the pause. Nerves and the desire to make a good impression can lead people to meandering replies or witticisms that could detract from the discussion. Instead, we recommend taking a deep breath or two before answering any question, allowing yourself time to reflect on both what was asked and what you’re about to say. Also, as an added Universal Events tip – admitting that you aren’t sure about something is better than pretending you know something you don’t.

Finally, before attending any interview, we suggest asking yourself these two questions, “Why do you want this position?” and, “What about this role excites you?” Your purpose and your passion should shine through in every answer.
