Guidelines for Acing Job Interviews and Landing Offers

Finding the best and brightest to join our Universal Events team is a high priority for our leaders. To hone and improve our recruitment process, we regularly reflect on how we are finding and attracting top candidates. This has led to significant insight into what makes people stand out when interviewing. If you are a job seeker, a few simple guidelines can lead to serious results.

As with most business activities, interviewing requires good preparation. Remember to arrive with several copies of your résumé and cover letter, copies of your portfolio if relevant, and something with which to write. Your clothing can also have a major impact on your first impression. Try to match the culture of the company but err on the side of professionalism when in doubt.

Watch the hiring manager’s reactions during your interview. Our peer-to-peer marketing efforts are so effective at Universal Events, in part, because we are able to adapt our message to the audience. This works when interviewing as well. As you are speaking, pay attention to the reaction. Use this insight to make adjustments as needed.

Once the interview process is complete, follow up with a thank-you note. This can go a long way in helping you land an offer. A big part of the process is simply being remembered. So, a follow-up is a valuable tool that you won’t want to waste.
