Tips for Giving an Outstanding Public Address from Universal Events, Inc.
We at Universal Events, Inc., believe that there are few skills as important to success in the business world as making an effective presentation. Being able to get your point across clearly and succinctly provides much-needed information to an audience while giving you credibility at the same time. Here are some strategies we’ve learned about how to give a great talk, every time.
- Listen to Yourself First: Invariably, things sound differently on paper than they do out loud. Give your talk to yourself before taking it to a live audience to get a feel for trouble spots.
- Dress for Success: When you look good, you feel good. Think about how the members of your audience will be dressed, and go one step up from that.
- Get to Know Your Audience: Make an effort to meet a couple of individuals before speaking so you can determine how much they already know about your topic, what they need to know, and their general disposition.
- Establish Your Credentials: If you are not introduced (or not introduced well) give a short introduction including who you are and why you’re qualified to be the one speaking that day.
- Control Your Nonverbal Cues: The majority of communication takes place through non-verbal messages. Stand up straight, don’t fidget, and use a confident tone of voice.
- Use Stories: Personal anecdotes give your presentation personality and allow your audience to find you relatable. Stories are also more memorable than analytics.
The leaders at Universal Events, Inc., have used these strategies to give many successful presentations, and we’re sure they will work for you as well.
