Ambitious people seek growth in just about every area of their lives – including their careers. For instance, every Universal Events promotion is a chance for more opportunity and greater success. Although professionals are often ready and eager for their advancement, they aren’t always prepared for the actual transitions. There are some important points to keep in mind when shifting between roles.

One of the first things a promoted individual must do is identify what tasks will no longer be parts of his or her routine. New expectations must take the place of old ones – not be piled on top of them. We’ve noticed that this distinction helps reinforce a sense of accountability throughout the Universal Events headquarters.

All the old tasks for which the newly promoted was responsible must be delegated to others. He or she can do so effectively by assigning work that best suits the preferences and strengths of his or her colleagues. In doing so, this person receives a lesson in relying on a team.

Once the work has been redistributed, it’s time for the person who has advanced to focus on new and bigger responsibilities. If the individual rises into a leadership role, he or she must take greater care to keep the company mission in sight. Big-picture thinking becomes more important than day-to-day duties.
