Feedback is necessary for us to grow as professionals, yet Universal Events managers have noticed that some people find constructive criticism difficult to receive, let alone give. Granted, it’s never fun to find out you’re not perfect, but at the same time it’s great to know what direction to go in if self-improvement is your goal.

Here are the two main guidelines Universal Events leaders try to follow when it comes to providing timely feedback so that it’s easier on everyone:

Stay Focused on the Relationship: The foundation of all communication – and especially feedback – is trust. When your colleagues believe you are honest and have their best interests at heart, they will listen to what you have to say – even if it’s not the most pleasant information. If you are overly critical or purposefully hurtful, you risk losing the trust of the people on your team. Once you do, it will be very difficult to earn back.

Keep It Coming on a Consistent Basis: Even if you’re 100 percent sure that you give feedback as often as you should, you may want to strive for more. A 2016 Gallup survey found that less than 20 percent of millennials felt they were getting routine feedback. Universal Events frontrunners believe that consistent communication provides the structure for working relationships, and that more makes for stronger connections.

Feedback may not be fun, but it doesn’t have to be painful. For more tips on how to build a great team, visit universalevents-inc.com.
