You may think of yourself as a skilled presenter, but there are probably some bad habits that you’re guilty of committing. We at Universal Events would like to highlight a few important and often-overlooked rules of making good presentations.

• Don’t Use Bullet Points:

Using bullet points distracts attention from your talents as a speaker. After all, your audience can read your slides faster than you can read the important points to them. Bullets are helpful in most documents (ahem), but they shouldn’t play a part in your presentations.

• Start on Paper:

PowerPoint is undeniably a great tool for composing a presentation, but we at Universal Events suggest outlining your work on paper. Doing so will prevent you from being boxed in by templates created by someone else.

• One Thought at a Time:

Make sure your slides contain only one main point each. If one slide has five different ideas on it, you risk losing the momentum of the story you’re attempting to relate.

• Limit Use of Charts:

Unless you’re creating a presentation for an academic purpose, don’t use complex charts. Posting a single statistic on a slide is significantly more likely to make an impact on a professional audience than a dense graphic display. Our team at Universal Events hopes you will steer clear of these common presentation pitfalls. You’ll be a much more effective speaker if you do.
